Radical Revisions and Adaptations

Radical Revisions and Adaptations

For an artist of any genre,  releasing a song that is appealing to the audience is harder than you think. The music industry is very competitive and artists strive to become more  popular and famous than the other. In result, more songs are created. Sometimes, multiple versions or remixes of a song are created.

For example, Jay Z has multiple versions of his song, “Encore.” Below are three different versions of “Encore.”
1) Encore by Jay Z ( Original Version )
2) Encore by Jay Z ( A Cappella )

The difference between the two is that this version is in A Cappella. A Cappella is a phrase that is commonly misused. It is two words, not one. The best definition I can give is,  A Cappella is singing with out the use of non-vocal instruments, or rapping in Jay Z's case.
3) Numb/Encore by Jay Z feat. Linkin Park
In Conclusion, adaptations and radical revisions helps not only the artist, but the music industry. Although hearing multiple versions of one song can be irritating, however it helps bring in more listeners.
We all remember Lil Boosie right? Hopefully, by the end of this video you either remember him or laugh.

  1. I found your blog very interesting and I agree that when artists have multiple versions of a song, it gives the song more angles to understand the meaning. I like when they're are multiple versions of a song.

  2. I like the post. Because it shows how the melody and instruments do play a vital role with the attachment of it's lyrics and pronunciation. For example, it's a couple and a pair. The song carries the same picture but it's alternative versions provide different frames.

  3. I really liked this blog, the remixes and different versions of songs are awesome. I dont think they ever hurt a song, they either make a song better or make the original song look better.

  4. I like the blog post although I am not too fond of there being so many different versions of some songs. I'm support the whole idea of the original always being the best. But hey to each's own.

  5. I thought this blog was interesting, despite not being a fan of multiple versions of songs. I believe artists such as Jay-Z who have already established a more-than-solid fanbase do not need to be contorting their singles in order to be more appealing to the public.

  6. Interesting blog. Liked how you used the Jay Z example of the song Encore. Shows how one really tries to impress the audience hence, by making 3 different versions of the song.

  7. This was a fun blog to read. It is true that we never really wonder at what it takes for an artist to make a song that appeals to an entire audience. The examples of songs you gave to show that were very well thought out.

  8. I think that artists making alternate versions of their music keeps things interesting and allows them to appeal to a wider audience. You picked a great song that shows this. Also I enjoyed the Lil Boosie video. That was hilarious.

  9. the video was funny, and i think another thing to keep in mind is that rappers will remix songs on tour to include others in the line up to really get the crowd going

  10. I like how you chose Jay-Z for the artists on this blog. I also like what you pointed out about different versions of the same song. It shows a deeper perception of the song that gives it Identity

  11. I had no idea that A Cappella wasn't one word. I suppose you learn something new everyday. I agree with you when you said rappers have to do different things to keep their fans and audiences interested. Hip-hop is such a competitive market, rappers do anything to stay relevant.

  13. I really enjoyed this blog because i have always wondered why artists make so many remixes to their own songs or other songs, but now I know that it is for the audience

  14. I agree the music industry is very competitive and a lot of times that means that similar versions of songs are made to see which one will become the most popular

  15. Interesting post. That is very true, looking at the fact that I know a lot of local rappers that are very talented but have not gotten big yet.

  16. Cool blog! I like that there are so many versions of one song sometimes because it can get boring listening to the same song over and over. This trend is also popular in other genres besides hip hop as well.
